About the Instructor

Susie Kidd
Studio Owner, Certified Instructor, Certified Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist

Studio owner and instructor Susie Kidd has been active in her body her whole life. Dancing since she can remember and always wanting to help others find the joy of movement, Susie began teaching dance to all ages on the north coast in 1998.

Susie realized her effectiveness as an instructor and the quality of her students’ movement would improve if she became a Pilates instructor. In 2003 she became a certified instructor after working with her mentor Natalie Huberman, who had her first studio in the late 70’s. Susie began offering Pilates classes to her community right away as she was recruited to join the staff at a local gym. Since then Susie has spent countless hours training with internationally recognized programs such as STOTT Pilates, Pilates Academy International, and The Pink Ribbon Program and has also become a Certified Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist.

After years of working as a Pilates instructor for the community college and in a gym with rather large classes, Susie decided to open up her own studio where she could spend more time with less students focusing on their individual needs and goals. In January of 2006 Sacred Bodies Pilates was created and opened as a small boutique studio. Since then the studio has expanded to two rooms with full equipment training, Pilates mat classes and specialized classes and workshops. Over the years Susie has inspired and trained her clients to the level of being instructor ready. Many of her students have pursued a certification in Pilates and Susie has written them letters of recommendation to be accepted into training programs and trained them to get their hours in and prepare for their certification tests.

It is truly Susie's goal that all of her clients understand the concepts of Pilates and the bigger Holistic picture of how it relates to everyday life rather than just time in the studio. Prior to becoming a Pilates instructor Susie has worked almost any job you can imagine. Because of all of the different types of work she has done she can understand how your daily activities affect your body. Her background includes working as a food server, a receptionist, a rafting, climbing and backpacking guide, a wilderness adventure guide for those with disabilities, a youth educator in elementary, middle and high school including non traditional schools. She has also worked for 4H as a program representative, for KEET TV as a literacy outreach coordinator, for Americorps as youth program and gardening director and for the National and State Parks as a Naturalist, Interpreter and sign designer. The list could go on but I am sure you get the idea that she has spent a lot of time in different work environments and can understand the issues that arise from doing so. Her clients range from your next door neighbor, to dancers, athletes, those recovering from accidents or surgeries and even those living with terminal illnesses. Susie accepts each client as an individual and will do all she can to accommodate your needs and goals.

In addition to Pilates, Susie offers dance classes in various styles in the community. When Susie is not at her studio she can be found directing and performing with her Hip Hop Dance Crew the BEAT VIXENS, teaching dance classes in the community or at College of the Redwoods where she pioneered the Pilates classes as well as the Hip Hop dance and Hiking courses.

In addition to being a Pilates instructor Susie earned a Bachelors of Science from Humboldt State University in Natural Resources Interpretation in 2001. On those days she is not challenging someone’s body she tries to get out and reconnect with nature. She enjoys doing acrobatics, hiking, rowing on the bay, paddling on the river and dancing every chance she can get.

Student Testimonials

I didn’t know how much I could improve my flexibility and strength until I enrolled in the Pink Ribbon Program at Sacred Bodies Pilates.  Susie was wonderful with pacing the class to suit the recovery stage of each of us.  I progressed far further than I had hoped and am now enjoying one of the regular classes.  The Pink Ribbon Program is suited to anyone a month or two out from surgery or even up to a year or more.  It’s the perfect way to “ease” into Pilates and to get the most out of your workout.  Susie is great at teaching the correct techniques which are hard to achieve on your own...and, best of all, I’m enjoying exercise again.  Thanks, Susie, for all your inspiration!

"I started taking pilates with Susie to get in shape for my wedding in August. Wow the changes I began to see in just a short amount of time! I love the private classes with Susie and the individual attention I receive is awesome. Mat classes are just as challenging and still have an intimate feel. After just 8 weeks I can see a real change in how I look and feel. My abs have never looked so defined in my life, my arms are toned up like crazy and my legs and butt are getting a workout too! Not only is pilates great for giving you that body you always wanted but it is great for the mind and soul. After a stressful day in the office a workout with Susie makes me forget the whole day! Tons of great deep breathing and focus help you walk out of the studio feeling energized and positive. I recomend pilates for all brides to be! I cannot wait to wear my dress and show off my hard work plus rock out in a bikini on my honeymoon!!. Thanks Susie"

"Pilates
has changed my life.  I started going nine months ago to prepare for two major knee surgeries to strengthen my body to help with recovery.  After my latest surgery in San Francisco, I came to Eureka to recover and wanted to continue pilates for the two months while in Humboldt.
Susie Kidd, the owner and instructor, was not afraid to take me on and tailor instruction for my needs.  I credit her training for helping me recover as well as I have and keep my entire body moving while on crutches.  I am so impressed by Susie's knowledge of the human anatomy and her professionalism during our sessions.  The studio space is also fabulous and a great feel.  Book time with her now before she gets too busy!!!!"
